Indications/Uses
Cimex Treatment of susceptible infections eg, bronchitis, gonorrhea, meningitis, otitis media, peritonitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis; skin, bone & joint infections, UTI. Surgical infection prophylaxis. Cimex Plus Infections due to sensitive gm +ve & gm -ve bacteria; surgical prophylaxis; more active against Haemophilus influenzae & Neisseria gonorrhea; Lyme disease.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cimex FC tab Adult Pharyngitis/tonsillitis, acute sinusitis 250-500 mg bid. Acute bronchitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, skin infections 250-500 mg bid. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 1 g as single dose. Uncomplicated UTI 125 mg or 250-500 mg bid. Cimex oral susp 125 mg/5 mL Adult 5-20 mL (1-4 tsp) bid. Childn >2 yr 10 mL (2 tsp) or 15 mg/kg bid. Max 20 mL daily; >3 mth 5 mL (1 tsp) or 10 mg/kg bid. Max 10 mL (2 tsp) daily. Cimex oral susp 250 mg/5 mL Adult 5-10 mL (1-2 tsp) bid. Childn >2 yr 5 mL (1 tsp) or 15 mg/kg bid. Max 10 mL (2 tsp) daily; >3 mth 2.5 mL (½ tsp) or 10 mg/kg bid. Max 5 mL (1 tsp) daily. Cimex Plus Deep IM inj/slow IV inj over 3-5 min/IV infusion. Adult 750 mg 8 hrly. Severe infections 1.5 g IV 6-8 hrly. Infant & childn 30-60 mg/kg daily, increased to 100 mg/kg daily in 3 or 4 divided doses. Neonates 100 mg/kg daily in 2 or 3 divided doses. Meningitis Adult 3 g IV 8 hrly. Infant & childn 200-240 mg/kg IV daily in 3 or 4 divided doses, may be decreased to 100 mg/kg daily after 3 days or when there is no clinical improvement. Neonates 100 mg/kg daily, decreased to 50 mg/kg daily. Gonorrhea 1.5 g as single IM dose divided between 2 inj sites. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 1 g as single dose given w/ probenecid 1 g. Surgical infection prophylaxis 1.5 g IV prior to procedure, may be supplemented by 750 mg IV or IM 8 hrly for up to 24-48 hr depending upon the procedure. Total joint replacement 1.5 g powd may be mixed w/ methyl methacrylate cement.
Administration
FC tab: May be taken with or without food. Powd for oral susp: Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. 
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting), headache. Cimex Plus Pruritus, shivering, exanthema, fever, urticaria, lymph node tumidity, arthrodynia, anaphylactic reaction. Severe renal disorder.
Drug Interactions
Cimex Probenecid. Cimex Plus Furosemide diuretics & aminoglycosides.
